While the students are reading have them create a voki, with this students can read 3 poems out loud and have the avatar repeat them. This will the help the students with fluency, they will be able to go back and listen to the way they are talking and reading the text. Students can practice using many poems found in the book. They can start with the easier poems and continue to the more difficult ones after practice.
After Reading Activity:
After students are completed the book about poetry ask the students to go to the giggle poetry website and with a small group of their classmates put on a short play of a poem of their choosing. The play must be chosen form the poetry theater section of the website. Provide students the props they will need and adequate time to prepare and practice their skit.
Writing Activity:
Have the student pick their very poem structure from the ones they read about and learned in the book. Ask them to write their own poem using that structure. The poem must be about themselves and describe some of their qualities.
